Becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation

A Trust was established by the Parish Council and registered with the Charity Commission in 1986 to own and run the Acton Trussell, Bednall & Teddesley Hay Community Centre which opened in 1990, replacing the former Village Hall.

Since the Trust’s formation, charity law has evolved and a new form of governance created the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) which grants added protection, wider powers and better regulation for trustees.

Last year the trustees decided to adopt the CIO constitution and are now in the process of applying to the Charity Commission to convert the present Trust as many village halls have done.

The change won’t have any noticeable effects but will improve the way in which the trust operates. A public meeting will be held soon to explain things and answer any questions.
